What is NDA?

NDA is located at Khadakwasla, Pune, Maharashtra, with academic affiliation to Jawaharlal Nehru University. The exam is conducted twice a year (April and September) by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) in pen-and-paper (OMR) mode.

Training & Career Progression

NDA training lasts 3 years, after which cadets move to specialized academies — Indian Military Academy (Army), Indian Naval Academy (Navy), or Air Force Academy (Air Force) — before being commissioned as Lieutenant, Sub-Lieutenant, or Flying Officer respectively.

Fees & Facilities

There is no tuition or academic fee — all training expenses are covered by the Ministry of Defence, including boarding, lodging, uniforms, books, and medical care. Cadets receive a monthly allowance during training and a stipend of around ₹56,100/month during the final year at their respective academy.

Note: There is a minimum service obligation after commissioning — leaving early requires repayment of training costs, which can run into several lakhs.
